Itinerary

DAY 1SANDAKAN TOWN TO SELINGAN TURTLE ISLAND (L,D)

Morning pickup from your hotel in Sandakan town or Sandakan airport, followed by a transfer to the jetty. Upon arrival, put on your life jacket and board the boat for a 40-minute ride to Selingan Island.

After check-in, enjoy lunch before taking a guided orientation tour of the island’s facilities, including the turtle hatchery and other wildlife.

The afternoon is free for leisure—swim, snorkel, relax in your room, or stroll along the beach to catch the sunset.

Dinner is at 7 pm. After dark, depending on the tide, Green turtles begin coming ashore to lay their eggs. Park Rangers will notify the group when the turtles start laying to minimize disturbance. You’ll have the chance to witness the tagging of the turtles, egg collection, and the transfer of eggs to the hatchery. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to release baby turtles into the sea.

DAY 2SELINGAN TURTLE ISLAND TO SEPILOK (B,L,D)

After breakfast, proceed with checkout.

Transfer to Sandakan town, a 40-minute boat ride across the Sulu Sea. Upon arrival at the jetty, switch to a van for transport to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (SOURC).

Upon arrival, take a 10-minute walk to the nursery to observe the feeding session in an enclosed area, where you can sit in either an air-conditioned or fan-cooled section. Then, walk another 5 minutes to the open space feeding area for more orangutan sightings.

Next, take a 15-minute walk to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) to observe the sunbear feeding.

Lunch will be around noon, followed by check-in at your accommodation. You’ll have leisure time to explore the area or relax in your room.

At 3:30 pm, transfer to the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) for a canopy walk. Return to your accommodation around 5 pm to rest.

Dinner is at 7 pm. Rest and unwind.

Note: You may opt to add a 2-hour night walk at RDC for a unique experience.

DAY 3SEPILOK TO DERAMAKOT FOREST RESERVE (B,L,D)

Have breakfast and proceed with checkout.

Transfer to Deramakot Forest Reserve, a 4.5-hour drive away. Along the way, make a short stop at a gas station for a restroom break, and feel free to grab some snacks if you’d like.

Continue for another 2 hours journey along a bumpy gravel road, with brief stops at the Maxland gate for permit application and registration, and another stop at the Forestry Department gate for registration and a restroom break.

Upon arrival at your accommodation, check in and enjoy lunch. Afterward, take some time to rest and relax.

At 3:30 pm, embark on an afternoon safari drive along the road to search for wildlife, then return to your accommodation.

Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm, followed by a night drive safari starting at 8:30 pm to search for nocturnal wildlife.

Return to your room and rest.

DAY 4DERAMAKOT FOREST RESERVE OVERNIGHT (B,L,D)

Start your day with a dawn drive at 5:30 am along the main road, where you’ll have a chance to spot both nocturnal and diurnal wildlife as the day begins to brighten.

Slowly drive back to the accommodation. Upon arrival, enjoy a late breakfast, and the rest of the morning will be free for you to rest and relax.

Lunch will be served around noon, followed by more leisure time before heading out on an afternoon drive safari at 3:30 pm. Drive along the main road, searching for wildlife and taking in the breathtaking rainforest scenery.

Return to your accommodation, and enjoy some downtime before dinner at 7:00 pm.

After dinner, embark on a long night drive safari, lasting approximately 4 hours, to search for more nocturnal wildlife.

Return to your room and rest.

DAY 5DERAMAKOT TO KINABATANGAN RIVER (B,L,D)

Enjoy breakfast and proceed with checkout, then embark on a 5-hour journey to the Kinabatangan River, traveling on a bumpy and uneven road.

Upon arrival, have lunch and check in to your room. Afterward, take some time to relax and explore the area.

At 3:30 pm, set off on a river cruise along the Kinabatangan River, where you can take in the beauty of the mangrove rainforest, spot birds flying overhead, and observe wildlife moving through the trees.

Return to your accommodation, and dinner will be served at 7:00 pm.

After dinner, rest and unwind for the evening.

DAY 6KINABATANGAN RIVER OVERNIGHT (B,L,D)

Start your day with a light breakfast before heading out for a 2-hour morning river cruise along the Kinabatangan River. Take in the beauty of the mangrove rainforest and spot wildlife along the way.

Return to your accommodation for a full breakfast, then enjoy a free and leisurely day, where you can relax in your room or explore the lodge surroundings.

Lunch will be served at noon, followed by more leisure time.

At 3:30 pm, embark on an afternoon river cruise for another chance to spot wildlife, returning around 5:30 pm.

Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm, followed by a night walk to discover nocturnal wildlife.

Rest for the night.

DAY 7KINABATANGAN RIVER TO DANUM VALLEY (B,L,D)

Have breakfast and proceed with checkout.

Transfer to Lahad Datu town, which is a 2.5-hour drive. Upon arrival, stop at the Danum Valley front office for registration and a restroom break, then continue on a 2.5-hour journey along an uneven, bumpy gravel road, passing through villages, plantations, and ancient rainforest.

Arrive at Danum Valley, where you’ll stop by the reception counter for briefing before being transferred to your accommodation. After settling in, enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, take some leisure time before heading out for an introductory walk around the area at 3:30 pm. If you’re lucky, you might spot orangutans or monkeys near the main road.

Return to your room and rest before dinner at 7:30 pm. After dinner, go on a night drive safari (non-private) to spot nocturnal wildlife.

Rest for the night. Electricity will be turned off at 11.00 pm until 7.30 am daily.

DAY 8DANUM VALLEY FIELD CENTRE (B,L,D)

Wake up early for a morning walk around the vicinity, heading to the Segama Bridge to observe birds flying over the river or simply take in the breathtaking views of the ancient rainforest.

Return to the dining area for breakfast at 7:30 am, then embark on a morning trek to visit the ancient burial site belong to the Sugpan people who live in the area long time ago. Around noon, trek back to accommodation area for lunch.

After lunch, relax and enjoy some leisure time. At around 3:30 pm, meet your guide for an afternoon walk focused on wildlife sightings. Wildlife could be spotted along the road, on the trails, or even off-trail, so be sure to follow your guide’s advice for the best chances of spotting animals and ensuring safety.

Return to your accommodation and have dinner at 7:30 pm. Afterward, go on a night walk to search for nocturnal wildlife.

Rest for the night.

DAY 9DANUM VALLEY (B)

Enjoy your leisure time by exploring the vicinity or relaxing. Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30 am.

Afterward, you can stroll around, rest in your room, or prepare for check out and then transfer to Lahad Datu Town at 10.00 am.
