Discover the beauty of this 55,507-hectare Mixed Dipterocarp Forest, renowned as the world’s first FSC-certified “well-managed” tropical rainforest. Deramakot Forest Reserve is a wildlife paradise, home to the globally threatened Orangutan, Bornean Pygmy Elephant, and Wild Cat of Borneo. While we cannot guarantee wildlife sightings due to their natural habitats, your journey through Deramakot Forest Reserve promises an unforgettable and enriching wildlife experience.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Sandakan town or from Sandakan Airport in the morning. From there, we will proceed to Deramakot Forest Reserve, which is approximately 190 kilometers away, around a 4-5 hour drive.
Midway to Deramakot, we’ll stop at a petrol station for a restroom break, giving you the opportunity to purchase some snacks. Then we will continue our journey, making a few stops at the gate for permit applications before arriving.
Upon arrival, you will check into your accommodation, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure until dinner. After dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to embark on a 4-hour Night Drive Safari to observe nocturnal wildlife. Following the safari, we will return to your accommodation.

Wake up early to the unique sounds of the rainforest. At around 5 am, set off on a dawn drive safari to search for diurnal wildlife. After this exciting activity, return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast.
Following breakfast, enjoy another morning drive along the road to spot more wildlife and take in the beauty of the rainforest. Afterward, return to your accommodation to relax at your leisure until lunch around noon.
Enjoy lunch at noon and rest again until dinner time. After dinner, embark on a long drive in search of nocturnal wildlife.
Around midnight, return to your accommodation and rest.
Wakeup and get your breakfast then proceed for checkout.
We will send you back to your hotel in Sandakan or Sandakan airport.
